First place winners at competition!
Torrington Warrior Cheerleaders took 1st place in divisions D-15, D-12, D-10 & D-8 at local competition. Additionally Division 12 (D-12) brought home the title and trophy "Grand Champion" for scoring the highest amount of points over all 30+ teams that competed. All Torrington Divisions qualified for the New England Regional on November 23 hosted at the XL Center here in CT. The girls will first compete in States on November 3 Central Connecticut State University. Congratulations to all division and GO WARRIORS!
2012-2013 Torrington Teacher of the Year
The Torrington Public Schools is pleased to announce the selection of Robin Ledversis as the 2012-2013 Torrington Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Ledversis has taught Grades 3 and 4 at Forbes School for six years and is a Torrington resident. She is a graduate of Bryant College. She completed her student teaching and Master’s degree in Education at the University of Bridgeport. Prior to her employment at Forbes School, Mrs. Ledversis served as the head Girls’ Soccer Coach at Torrington Middle School and Assistant Girls’ Basketball Coach at Torrington High while attending graduate school. Mrs. Ledversis was selected to attend the prestigious Phil Mikelson/Exxon Mobile Teacher Academy in 2010.
Mrs. Ledversis is dedicated to providing [students] with a secure, caring, and stimulating environment that challenges them and gives them the opportunity to grow academically, emotionally, and socially. She is committed to inquiry-based learning as evidenced by incorporating LEGO education into her classroom and working with community partners such as the Torrington Water company on the water cycle unit and with Optiwind on the use of wind as a natural energy source. She is deeply involved in a number of groups and organizations designed to improve outcomes and opportunities for students such as the Forbes Campership committee, the Building Bridges Program, the Forbes School Governance Council, and the founder of the LEGO club. Mrs. Ledversis is active in the Elks and Police Athletic League basketball programs and in JDRF.
Principal Susan Lubomski describes Mrs. Ledversis as, “an innovative and enthusiastic teacher.” She states, “Mrs. Ledversis has worked on developing ways to keep her students engaged in learning. She has integrated technology and various out of school experiences to inspire her students. In addition to her commitments in the classroom, she has been willing to take on many different projects and groups to benefit our school community. Her belief in creating a sense of community helps her students to be successful.”
