Candidates quote to the Torrington Community:

I was elected to the Board in November of 2009. I attended Torrington public schools and am currently employed as a Business Office Associate and Accounts Payable Specialist at Renbrook School in West Hartford. My husband, Michael, along with our two children and four grandchildren all reside in Torrington and have or are attending Torrington Public schools.  I am running because I want to continue to ensure that the classes and activities that kept me engaged in school continue to grow.  Torrington is a great community to raise a family and I feel that the way to entice new families to move here is if they are confident that the schools will prepare their children well and I am willing to work hard to continue to that end.

Candidates quote to the Torrington Community:

My reason for running is simple. I have one child in the school system now with another on the way next year. I am invested in the education of my kids and I feel that we all must be held to a higher standard. There are great teachers, parents, and children in this community. I feel that we all must be held accountable and work together as a team in order to ensure that we provide a safe environment for learning that encourages creativity, discipline, and achievement.

Candidates quote to the Torrington Community:

"It is important for Torrington to have a successful, top notch education system. A majority of your taxes support the schools. Your property values are directly tied to the success of our schools. As a retired teacher I value the professionalism of our teaching staff. All too often teachers are left out of the decision making process when in truth they should be the valued experts. I also value the voice of parents. When I first started teaching my first principal said " Paul, listen to parents, they have a lot too tell you" I have tried to live that advice. It is time for both teachers and parents to play an important role in Board of Education decisions and to play an important role in any school improvement plan."
